You are a racist, aren’t you?

If you look closely enough, you know that not all is well under the hood. Sure, our cars look pretty on the outside, but it’s always the engine that’s a little grimey. Things get a little dirty, don’t they?

Obama, Clinton, Huckabee, McCain. Lots of talk about race issues, gender issues. And lots of talk about “Americans” — you know, the hypothetical ones who might say one thing about their comfort levels, while voting differently. Are these mythic “Americans” really ready for a female president? Are “they” really ready for a president of African ancestry?

And what about “you”? What do you really think? Well, a few Harvard researchers have put forward a test to help you find out. It tests your online response time to various photos and words — how quickly you put them in categories of “good” or “bad”. And the difference, in milliseconds, can tell you a lot about how you really feel.

Give it a shot. This is better than a Facebook game. And it takes 10 minutes.

  1. In your face! My test said, “Your data suggest a slight automatic preference for Arab Muslims compared to Other People.” How dare you call me a racist, sir!

By the way, you’re being more than a little deceptive if you’re saying this takes less time than a Facebook quiz. :)

  2. Now now, I wasn’t calling *you* a racist, sir! So don’t get all defensive, now! Unless you have something to be defensive about. Hmmm, what have you got to hide? :)
