Allen already got married. Brian’s wedding is coming up. And I think Vipur has a wedding ceremony somewhere on the horizon. A Modesto pal, a former bandmate, and a college buddy. And I’m missing out on some of the biggest days of their lives.
It would have been great to hang out with my gang of fellow Modesto survivors as we toasted to Allen and Hoa’s good fortune. It would have been nice to see my old band mates as we celebrated with Brian. And Vip’s wedding? That will be a great reunion for all.
But alas, I’m in New Delhi and not San Francisco.
When you are 31 years old and on the American clock, that means your friends are entering marriage territory. And suddenly the social costs of my departure are really settling in. It isn’t just birthday parties, fun facebook photos, or the camaraderie of my old workplace that I’m observing from a distance. It is the marker of new beginnings — friends getting married and starting new lives together. And all the fun everyone else has as they cheer them on.
Sanjeev, speaking of new beginnings, did we tell you that we’re expecting an addition to our family? We’re waiting to find out if we’re having a boy or a girl. Neil said to tell you that your birthday is in jeopardy since the due date is 5/26/08! Do you have a phone number where we can reach you?

That’s so exciting! But my birthday is safe for now — 5/11/76. Congratulations! I’ll send my phone # shortly.
